Musician Birgit Sarrap says doubts about whether people need her music have often held her back from pursuing her own projects, ERR reported after her appearance on the programme Hommik Anuga.
Sarrap said she feels at home hosting the show Suur muusikamäng. She had been waiting for an opportunity like this and felt ready for it in recent years. She also enjoys talking with people at her concerts and said working in front of cameras felt like a natural next step, as she had grown up in front of them.
At first, she worried about whether she could do the job. She now watches the episodes back and notices what she does with her hands and which words she repeats, but said she enjoys hosting in the moment.
Next spring will mark 20 years since the start of Sarrap’s professional career. She said she is now feeling creatively freer and has written most of the lyrics for a new song for the first time. She had previously left songwriting to professionals, but felt the words for this song needed to come from her.
Although she sees herself as a cheerful and grateful person, Sarrap said she has many doubts and a range of feelings. She tries to remind herself to do what feels right rather than worry about what others think. She also said that both difficult times and good times pass, and that she uses her social media accounts like a diary to preserve memories of the good ones.
Sarrap said she is still learning to listen to others without interrupting. Although she has training in therapy and learned to listen to people, she feels she may have learned more about listening to herself. She performed her new song “Vaikides” on the programme, which is due to air on ETV on October 25 at 10 a.m.
