Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Third Violin Concerto will be performed in Estonia for the first time at the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra’s anniversary series opening concert on 23 October, ERR reported. Violinist Vadim Gluzman will be the soloist, with Olari Elts conducting.

Tüür wrote the concerto, titled “Conversations with the Unknown,” in 2019 at Gluzman’s encouragement. The composer said Gluzman’s sensitivity and creative approach to music-making were deeply inspiring.

Gluzman described the work as a profound exploration of the self, saying it had spoken to him from the first time he opened the score. He said he had carried it in his mind and heart for the past three years and was pleased to perform it in Tallinn.

Tüür said the title refers to how little people may know of their own inner selves. He described the piece as an individual’s journey through varied landscapes, feelings and experiences, which he hopes leads to brighter ground.
