Lithuania’s government has approved transferring state-owned property worth nearly €10.9 million to the national public broadcaster LRT for 20 years under a trust-management agreement, LRT reported.
The transfer covers 21 real estate properties, with a residual value of €9.02 million at the end of 2025, and 2,160 items of long-term tangible assets, valued at €1.86 million at the end of June this year.
The properties are in Vilnius, Kaunas, Alytus and Šiauliai. In Vilnius, they include a complex on S. Konarskio Street containing administrative buildings, a television studio and a technical centre needed to maintain broadcasts. LRT’s annex in Kaunas is important for keeping broadcasts running during war or other emergencies. Buildings in Alytus and Šiauliai are used by regional correspondents.
The Culture Ministry prepared the proposal following recommendations from the National Audit Office. An audit report published in October 2025 said LRT had not signed the trust-management agreement required under the LRT law.
LRT first requested the transfer of the state-owned assets in 2022, saying they were needed to ensure the public broadcaster could operate. The government’s decision authorises the Culture Ministry to sign a 20-year agreement. No additional state budget funding will be needed.
