Estonia’s National Audit Office has begun an audit of controls on the Financial Intelligence Unit’s (FIU) queries to state databases, ERR reports.

The audit will assess whether controls are adequate and effective, whether the data requested match the requirements set out in the FIU’s database regulations, and whether staff access rights are properly managed at the FIU and in state databases. It will also examine whether queries can be checked retrospectively and whether they are effectively supervised.

The National Audit Office will provide the audit’s precise scope and main questions once its audit plan is complete. It expects to publish the report in the third quarter of 2027.
