ERSO, Estonian broadcasting, music

The ERSO has recorded new versions of the theme music for 14 radio and television programmes, ERR reported, giving familiar tunes a more grand and festive sound ahead of the orchestra’s 100th anniversary in December.

The recordings are a gift to the public broadcaster for its music month and the approaching anniversary. They also pay tribute to the organisations’ shared history, when a symphony orchestra operated at the broadcaster and programmes featured live music.

Some of the new arrangements and orchestrations have been on air since International Music Day, while others are due to be broadcast soon. Viewers have already heard the updated themes for the cultural programmes OP and Plekktrumm. The familiar melody of Ringvaade will be performed by the ERSO on Monday. Vikerraadio and Klassikaraadio will also introduce new sound designs.

Estonian composers created the arrangements and orchestrations. The updated themes are for Klassikaraadio’s Kontserdisaalis by Margo Kõlar, Klassikahommik’s Tere hommikust by Liisa Hirsch, the Klassikaraadio signature tune by Jüri Reinvere, Vikerraadio’s Vikerhommik by Evelin Seppar, Uudis+ by Liina Sumera, Müstiline Venemaa by Märt-Matis Lill, Käbi ei kuku… by Ülo Krigul and Eesti lugu by Peeter Vähi.

The remaining themes are for Raadio 4’s signature tune by Ardo-Ran Varres, ETV’s OP by Timo Steiner, ETV2’s Plekktrumm by Rasmus Puur, ETV’s Esimene stuudio by Tõnis Kaumann, Terevisioon by Elis Hallik and Ringvaade by Tõnu Kõrvits.
