A drone that crashed in Pasvalys district carried explosives, Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius said, according to LRT. The wreckage was found in Juodžioniai village, where JP.lt reporters documented broken trees and a crater at the crash site.
Sinkevičius said the drone entered Lithuania from Poland and was of Ukrainian origin. He said the aircraft was an FPV drone, and that debris and information from Ukraine indicated a drone had been lost during an attack.
The object was first detected at 5:47 a.m. on Sunday, the prime minister said. Residents later reported hearing a sound resembling a drone to the Emergency Response Centre, including callers from Kalvarija and Marijampolė.
Around 7 a.m., a red air alert was issued in Panevėžys and Šiauliai counties because of the object in Lithuanian airspace. The alert was lifted about an hour later.
The drone’s debris damaged a car travelling on a road. The people inside were not injured.
