Palanga mayor Vaitkus to seek another term

Palanga Mayor Šarūnas Vaitkus will seek another term in the 2027 local elections, LRT reported. The Central Electoral Commission registered his candidacy on Friday.

“I did not make this decision as a political choice. For me, it is first and foremost personal, connected to the city where I was born and grew up, where my children were born, where my family lives and where I see my future,” Vaitkus wrote on Facebook. “Palanga is my home, my roots and part of my life.”

Vaitkus has led the resort town since 2011. The next municipal council and mayoral elections are scheduled for March 7, 2027.

Since 2023, the number of consecutive terms a mayor may serve has been limited. A person who has held the office for three consecutive terms cannot be elected to a fourth consecutive term.
