Vilnius City Municipality plans to renovate a square in the Naujamiestis district, between Savanorių Avenue and S. Konarskio Street, LRT reports. The work is set to include new footpaths, benches and lighting, as well as additional greenery.
The municipality says the project aims to preserve the square’s central feature: a row of black poplar trees. Two poplars and two maples are due to be removed because of their poor condition. Seven new trees, flowering shrubs and perennial flowers are planned for the square.
An oak planted in 2022 at the initiative of the State Border Guard Service will also remain. The worn footpaths will be renewed, and more places to rest will be added.
The square’s 1986 sculpture Nightingale, by sculptor Rimantas Daugintis, will remain at its centre, with new benches planned around it.
Residents are invited to review the renovation concept and submit proposals. A public presentation is scheduled for October 27 at the Vilnius Schoolchildren’s Creativity and Education Centre. The detailed renovation project is expected to be presented to the public in early 2027.
