Residents have been given guided tours of Aizkraukle Municipality’s renovated buildings, where new security rules restrict access to some rooms. LSM, citing Vidusdaugava Television, reported that public interest led the municipality to expand the tours.

The tours are one of the few ways to see both renovated municipal buildings. Visitors can still freely access the customer service centre and other providers that work with the public, but appointments are now required to meet central administration staff.

Municipal civil protection commission communications specialist Evija Vectirāne said the new rules followed thefts from offices and visits by intoxicated or aggressive people. Previously, she said, anyone could enter a colleague’s office without being checked.

Organisers initially planned three tour groups but added two more because of demand. They also increased the number of guides, municipal representative Arvis Upīts said. A total of 91 residents took part.

Visitors praised the modern facilities and improved accessibility. One resident, Mārite, said people with disabilities can enter the lift in a wheelchair and reach any floor.

Access is also restricted for municipal employees, with only a few able to enter every room. Council chairman Leons Līdums said some staff can access only their own offices. He said careful handling of documents was important during the hybrid war and that the rules also addressed data protection.
