Students at Zaļenieki Commercial and Craft Secondary School practised first aid and how to evacuate during an emergency on Tuesday, while also learning what to do in the event of a drone attack, LSM reported.
The seventh-graders completed two practical exercises as part of a lesson. In one, they provided first aid under the observation of the school nurse, who said the exercise went well.
In another, students responded to an alarm and a simulated smoke hazard by finding a way out of the school. The scenario assumed smoke in the evacuation stairwell, so they used the main stairs and gathered on the sports field.
One student, Miroslava Opalenika, who is from Ukraine, said the lesson was useful and interesting. She learned that students should not obstruct others or run ahead, so no one falls.
Safety Week is taking place in schools across Latvia this week. It is organised by the Ministry of Education, the State Education Development Agency, the State Fire and Rescue Service and other partners. Activities focus on evacuation drills, practising responses to power outages and other threats, testing communication chains and identifying local risks.
