A man from Druskininkai municipality has been sentenced to five years in prison for extorting a married couple, including by throwing a burning bottle of flammable liquid into their home, LRT reported, citing prosecutors.

Kaunas Regional Court found P.K. guilty of extortion. Prosecutors said that from October to mid-November 2025, he used threats and psychological pressure to demand property from the couple for his own benefit, without legal grounds.

He demanded 25 percent of the couple’s profits from what he claimed was their trade in alcoholic beverages. In November, he also messaged one of the victims on social media demanding a one-time payment of €5,000.

After the couple did not pay, P.K. threw a burning bottle filled with flammable liquid into their home the following night to intimidate them and force them to hand over property. The fire damaged property valued at €934.

The September 30 ruling can be appealed to the Lithuanian Court of Appeal within 20 days of its announcement.
