The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra performed with pianist Kalle Randalu and conductor Neeme Järvi at Estonia Concert Hall on Oct. 9. The full concert is available to watch on ERR’s culture portal.
The concert was part of the Maestro series, which is dedicated to the orchestra’s former chief conductors for its anniversary year. Järvi, who led the orchestra during two periods, appeared with his longtime collaborator Randalu.
The performance marked Randalu’s 70th birthday and featured music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, whom the pianist has called the great love of his life. The programme included the Rondo in D major and Piano Concerto in F major, which Randalu has also recorded with the orchestra and Järvi.
The Estonia National Opera Boys’ Choir and the men’s section of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre’s mixed choir joined the orchestra for Richard Strauss’s “Austria”, written for large orchestra and men’s choir. The programme also included German composer Joachim Raff’s symphony “In Autumn”, which depicts scenes from nature.
The broadcast was produced in collaboration with Klassikaraadio.
