Estonia’s Foreign Ministry is strongly advising against travel to Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region because of increased Houthi attacks, ERR reports.
The ministry said the Middle East’s rapidly changing and unpredictable security situation could lead to further attacks at short notice. Any escalation could severely disrupt air traffic and even result in temporary border closures.
Estonian citizens already in the region should remain alert, avoid crowds and other high-risk places, and follow instructions from local authorities. The ministry also urged them to register their stay abroad through its Reisi Targalt travel portal so it can contact them quickly if needed.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels have significantly stepped up attacks on Saudi Arabia in recent days, targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. An attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport overnight on Sunday was the deadliest in the past decade, according to the article. Initial reports said 12 people had been killed and more than 300 injured.
Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said killing civilians and attacking civilian infrastructure are grave violations of international law. He said Estonia firmly condemns the Houthi attacks.
