Lithuania’s Democratic Union “For Lithuania” will present and approve its candidates for the 2027 mayoral elections at a meeting in Vilnius on Saturday, LRT reported.

The party’s “Regional Leaders 2027” event will also outline its election preparations and the main principles of its programme.

Party chairman Virginijus Sinkevičius said the party aimed to strengthen local government and increase residents’ involvement in decision-making. He said decisions should be made closer to where people live, as local residents know their problems best.

Direct elections for mayors and municipal council members are scheduled for March 7, 2027. In the previous municipal elections, the party won 129 seats, including five mayoral posts.
