A three-year-old left the grounds of Pasaulīte preschool in Bauska unsupervised on Thursday, the second such incident this year, LSM reported, citing the Bauska municipality. The child was found safe and well.

The municipality said its leadership convened an emergency meeting with heads of the town’s preschools to review what happened and consider additional safety measures. The municipal police have begun an administrative process, while an internal investigation is under way to establish the circumstances and assess responsibility.

All municipal preschools have been told to inspect their safety infrastructure, particularly gates, locks, access systems and fences. The municipality is also reviewing child supervision procedures and emergency responses.

On Thursday evening, Pasaulīte staff discussed safety with parents and answered their questions and concerns. The municipality urged parents to close preschool gates carefully, keep access codes from children and talk about safety at home. It also asked the public to alert police if they see a young child alone in a public place.
