Prosecutors send Klaipėda drug possession case to court
Prosecutors have sent to court a case against a 41-year-old Klaipėda man accused of unlawfully possessing a very large quantity of drugs, LRT reported.
Authorities began investigating in April after residents reported suspected drug-related activity in an apartment in a block of flats in Klaipėda. Police officers who went to the address noticed a distinctive smell coming from the man’s apartment that they suspected was from a plant-based drug.
A search of the apartment found 164 grams of cannabis resin, 356 grams of cannabis above-ground parts and 0.031 grams of a mixture containing the psychotropic substance delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, according to law enforcement.
The man is charged with possessing narcotic or psychotropic substances with intent to distribute, or with unlawfully possessing a very large quantity of such substances. The offences carry a possible prison sentence of 10 to 15 years.
The case has been referred to the Klaipėda Regional Court.
