Lithuania’s Central Electoral Commission has revoked Agnė Bilotaitė’s parliamentary mandate and awarded the vacant seat to fellow conservative Kęstutis Masiulis, LRT reported. The decision takes effect on Wednesday, October 14.

Bilotaitė, a member of the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats parliamentary group, announced on Wednesday that she would give up her seat for personal reasons. She is leaving active politics but will remain a party member.

The commission decided to give the mandate to Masiulis, the first party candidate who had not secured a seat in the multi-member constituency. Bilotaitė was elected through that constituency and is 44.

During the current parliamentary term, she served on the Committee on Legal Affairs and Law Enforcement and the commission for parliamentary oversight of criminal intelligence. She also chaired the temporary women’s parliamentary group and led a working group on improving legal rules to prevent and address sexual harassment and violence.

From 2020 to 2024, Bilotaitė was interior minister in the government led by Ingrida Šimonytė. She initiated changes to the crisis management system, the development of a new civil protection system and the creation of a shelter network. She also worked on strengthening the security of the state and its institutions.

Bilotaitė has served in parliament since first being elected in 2008. She has also worked on anti-corruption measures and initiated and drafted the Whistleblower Protection Law.
