The Swedish Academy will announce this year’s Nobel Prize in Literature laureate at 14:00 on Thursday, with a live broadcast available through ERR’s culture portal.
The prize, founded by Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel, is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious literary awards. It was first awarded in 1901 and has since recognised writers, poets and essayists from around the world, regardless of nationality or literary genre.
Last year’s laureate was Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai, 71. The prize is worth 11 million Swedish kronor, or about one million euros, and will be presented on December 10, the anniversary of Nobel’s death.
