Antanas Nedzinskas, expense scandal, Trakai district

Seimas member Antanas Nedzinskas has rejected a claim seeking more than 5,000 euros for expenses incurred while he served on the Trakai District Municipal Council, LRT reported.

The Vilnius Regional District Court heard the civil case in Trakai on Monday. A prosecutor from the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office, acting to protect the public interest, is seeking 5,100 euros from Nedzinskas for alleged unjust enrichment, plus annual interest of 5% and legal costs. The Trakai District Municipal Administration is a third party in the case.

The claim concerns council expenses from December 17, 2020, to April 14, 2023. The parties were questioned in court. Nedzinskas opposed the claim, while the municipal administration did not state a position, court representative Daina Stasiukynienė told ELTA. Mediation had previously failed to produce an agreement.

The next hearing is scheduled for October 19, when the court is expected to question a witness and hear closing arguments.

Last November, the Seimas declined to lift Nedzinskas’s legal immunity in a related criminal investigation. Prosecutors had sought permission to pursue possible suspicions of embezzlement, abuse of office, document forgery and use of a forged document.

Prosecutors said Nedzinskas may have misappropriated 2,018 euros in municipal funds while serving on the council from 2020 to 2023. The money was compensation for fuel, although documents reportedly showed payments made with seven different cards. Nedzinskas has said he does not consider himself guilty and argued that the municipality had no rule requiring receipts to be issued in the claimant’s name.
