Investigators to present findings on fatal Finland helicopter crash
Finland’s Safety Investigation Authority and Estonia’s Safety Investigation Bureau will present the findings of their investigation into a fatal helicopter collision near Eura, Finland, ERR reports.
The investigation is complete, and the final report will be published on Tuesday. The press conference, starting at noon and held in Finnish and Estonian, will be livestreamed on ERR’s website. Lead investigator Janne Kotiranta of Finland’s authority and authorised representative Karl-Eerik Unt of Estonia’s bureau will outline the findings and safety recommendations.
On May 17, 2025, two helicopters left the Linnahall heliport in Tallinn at 11:17, bound for Piikajärvi airfield in Finland. Flying together, they collided near Eura airfield at 12:34, at an altitude of about 200 metres.
The collision damaged both helicopters beyond airworthiness, and they crashed into a forest. All five people aboard the aircraft died. The dead included businesspeople Oleg Sõnajalg and Priit Jaagant, as well as Jaagant’s wife.
