TT-Line to add vessel to Muuga-Vuosaari route
Estonia’s Port of Tallinn has signed an agreement with Germany’s TT-Line to operate an additional vessel on the Muuga-Vuosaari route from 2027, ERR reports.
The ro-pax ferry will have about 2,000 lane metres of cargo capacity. It will also offer a café, passenger lounge, cabins and other services for travellers and truck drivers.
Muuga, Estonia’s largest cargo port, and Vuosaari, Helsinki’s main cargo port, are connected by a route that is important for freight between Estonia and Finland. The service offers carriers a direct sea link and helps keep heavy trucks away from central Tallinn and Helsinki, according to the article.
Port of Tallinn board member Rene Pärt said freight volumes on the route had grown year by year and were nearing the capacity of a single vessel. He said a second operator would increase capacity and sailing frequency while giving customers more choice and flexibility.
The regular route between the cargo ports opened in 2017. Tallink and Eckerö Line have operated it, and Eckerö Line currently serves it with the vessel Finbo Cargo. Both the existing and additional vessels will be handled at the HHLA TK Estonia terminal in Muuga.
The agreement will generate revenue for Port of Tallinn through ship-call, cargo and passenger fees and increase use of existing infrastructure. TT-Line, founded in 1962, is a German family-owned shipping company with nine ro-pax vessels. It connects Germany with Sweden, Poland and Lithuania.
