Regions Party names Fominienė-Salemonė as Vilnius mayoral candidate

The Lithuanian Regions Party has nominated community organiser Violeta Fominienė-Salemonė as its candidate for Vilnius mayor in the 2027 election, LRT reported.

Fominienė-Salemonė, founder of the Vardan Salininkų community, announced the nomination on Facebook. She is also a representative of the Vaikų sub-eldership in the Naujininkai eldership and chairs the party’s Naujininkai-Rasos branch in Vilnius.

She said she would represent and defend residents, adding that she would work with a team of specialists and city councillors. Fominienė-Salemonė previously belonged to the Democrats’ Union “For Lithuania”.

She had appealed a police decision to discontinue an administrative case against journalist Rita Miliūtė over publicly showing her middle finger, asking the court to return the case to police. The Vilnius City District Court ruled that police had been right to close the case.

Municipal council and mayoral elections are scheduled for March 7, 2027.
