Singer Eleryn Tiit says the feeling that nothing lasts forever shaped her new album, she told ERR’s Hommik Anuga programme.

Tiit’s album, “Meil pole aega maa ja ilm” (“We don’t have all the time in the world”), was released this week. She said its origins go back a couple of years, when she began to feel an unusual melancholy on visits to her childhood home in Viljandi, even though everything was going well.

When her manager, Toomas Olljum, asked whether she wanted to release singles next, Tiit replied that she did not want to wait and needed to put out an album. She said she had been thinking often about how life is not eternal and wanted to write about a feeling that moved her.

The album was made with producer Sten Šeripov, who connected with the idea. Tiit said turning 30 had prompted her to think about a subject that everyone faces at some point.

The final song, “Üle katuste” (“Over the rooftops”), was written two and a half weeks before the album’s release. Tiit said the album was almost finished when Šeripov suggested writing one more track; they completed it in a day. “Soe” (“Warm”) is currently one of her favourite songs on the album.

Tiit said she does not make albums with awards in mind, adding that if one comes, that is welcome, but it is not her goal.
