Light sources are being replaced at the Victory Column on Freedom Square in Tallinn, leaving the memorial only partly illuminated, ERR reported, citing Ando Voogma, a portfolio manager at the State Defence Investment Centre.

Voogma said the existing lights had reached the end of their service life, with some burned out and others dimmed. They are now being replaced with new ones.

The centre has no plans for a major renovation, despite reports in previous years that the memorial would undergo repairs. Voogma said some glass elements had been replaced by the previous owner, but there was no current need for extensive work.

The column needed frequent minor repairs in its early years, but those problems have since eased, Voogma said. Occasional issues, including with paving outside the monument, are handled through routine maintenance.

The memorial, which commemorates victory in the Estonian War of Independence, opened in June 2009.
