Latvian agencies step up election security
Latvian services have been operating on heightened alert throughout the week to help ensure a safe and peaceful parliamentary election, LSM reported. On election day, October 3, the National Armed Forces, police and Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau are monitoring the situation.
The armed forces and NATO allies are increasing surveillance of Latvia’s airspace and territorial waters and continuing to support the State Border Guard in curbing illegal migration. Defence institutions have reported no signs of a direct military threat, so the armed forces remain at their routine level of combat readiness.
The State Police is prepared for possible provocations and is monitoring both individuals near polling stations and outside attempts to influence Latvia’s domestic political processes. The State Security Service has also been closely assessing developments in society and the information space to identify and prevent unlawful attempts to influence the election process or results.
