Cell broadcast alerts will tell voters if polling stations close during an airspace threat on Latvia’s October 3 election day, LSM reports. A follow-up alert will say when they reopen.
The Central Election Commission, State Fire and Rescue Service and National Armed Forces urged residents to read the full alert and follow its safety instructions.
Alerts will be sent to mobile phones in the affected territory. They will say that polling stations in affected municipalities and state cities are closed and voting is temporarily unavailable.
When the threat ends, a further alert will give information about polling stations resuming operations. If necessary, it will also say whether polling hours in the affected territory have been extended until 10 p.m.
Polling stations elsewhere in Latvia will operate as usual unless alerts state otherwise. The State Fire and Rescue Service said phones may sound a loud warning signal when an alert arrives.
