Lithuania marks 75 years since Operation Autumn deportations

LRT reports that Lithuania has marked the 75th anniversary of the October 2-3, 1951 deportations to Siberia, when more than 16,000 people were deported, including more than 5,000 children.

The commemoration began with Mass at the Church of Saints Philip and James. The victims were later honored at the monument to victims of the Soviet occupation on Aukų Street.

More than 15,000 security personnel, officers, soldiers, militiamen and members of destruction battalions took part in the operation, along with about 8,000 Soviet activists.
