Winds to strengthen after warm weekend in Lithuania
Lithuania will have a mostly dry and warm weekend, with temperatures reaching 21C in some places, before winds strengthen next week, LRT reported, citing forecaster Edita Gečaitė of the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service.
Saturday night will be mostly clear, with no rain expected. Light southerly winds are forecast, and fog may form in places, mainly in eastern Lithuania, during the second half of the night. Temperatures will fall to 5C to 8C in most areas and 9C to 13C in some western areas. The southeast will be coldest, at 3C to 5C, with ground frost of up to 1C below zero possible in places.
Saturday will be partly cloudy, with morning fog clearing later and no significant rain expected. Temperatures will reach 16C to 19C, rising to 20C around Marijampolė and Alytus and possibly 21C near Druskininkai.
Fog may return in places overnight on Sunday, when temperatures are expected to range from 5C to 10C and reach 11C to 14C on the coast. Cloud cover will increase in western Lithuania during the day, with brief showers possible in some places. Temperatures will reach 15C to 19C.
Southwesterly winds will strengthen on Monday, with gusts of 15 to 18 metres per second possible in western areas during the day. A little brief, localised rain is expected. Temperatures will range from 7C to 12C overnight, reaching 14C on the coast, and rise to 15C to 19C during the day.
Tuesday is currently forecast to bring the week’s poorest weather, as a low-pressure vortex centred near the northern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula increasingly influences Lithuania. Heavy rain is not expected, but southwesterly and westerly winds will strengthen further. Gusts may reach 15 to 18 metres per second in some places overnight and across much of the country during the day. Temperatures will remain relatively mild, ranging from 8C to 13C at night and reaching 15C to 20C during the day.
