Four politicians are seeking the Liberal Movement’s nomination for mayor of Kaunas in next year’s local elections, LRT reported, citing the party’s Kaunas city branch.
Branch members have put forward businessman Mindaugas Gyvys, MP Simonas Kairys, former Kaunas mayor Rimantas Mikaitis and branch chair Sigitas Šliažas. The party is expected to choose its candidate at a general meeting on October 7.
Members will also rank the party’s candidates for the Kaunas city council. The initial alphabetical list includes more than 50 people, according to the party.
The meeting is also due to present the Kaunas Liberal Movement’s programme for the 2027 local elections. Elections for mayors and municipal councils are scheduled for March 7. The previous local elections were held in 2023, when turnout in the first round was 48.91% for both mayoral and council elections.
