Freelance dancer, choreographer and teacher Eve Mutso, a former principal dancer with Scottish National Ballet, has received this year’s Helmi Tohvelman award, ERR reports.

Mutso visited Tohvelman’s home area in Väätsa on Thursday, laid flowers at her memorial stone in Lõõla and visited her birthplace at Kuuramatsi farm.

Laine Mägi, the award’s first recipient, presented it to Mutso at the Paide theatre house before a performance of the Paide City Theatre production “At the beginning there was a song”. Mutso created the movement direction for the production.

“I remember her performance in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’, where emotional and psychological precision gives so much strength, energy and confidence that psychological theatre is possible after all,” said Mägi, a member of the award jury.

Mutso said the award was extremely important to her. “I am very grateful to all the directors, actors and students who keep working with me and let me be part of their roles and productions. I learn as much from them as they do from me,” she said.
