Südalinna Theatre has eliminated its dramaturg position to save money, ERR reported, citing Delfi Kultuur. Laur Kaunissaare, who had worked at the theatre since 2024, said Wednesday was his last day.
Kaunissaare described the past two years as “very interesting” and “very intense” in a social media post, thanking colleagues and others who had followed the changes. Theatre director Anne-Lii Päiv said the decision was based on the theatre’s financial results, which are reviewed each month. She said her relationship with Kaunissaare remained friendly, and Kaunissaare also said there had been no conflict.
Päiv said their cooperation would continue in another form. Kaunissaare will remain involved in a project related to a play by Ivan Võrõpajev, though Päiv declined to specify his role.
Kaunissaare previously worked as a dramaturg at Tallinn City Theatre, Kanuti Gildi SAAL and NO99. From 2021, he was a theatre adviser at the Ministry of Culture before joining Südalinna Theatre.
