Riga Technical University enters the world’s top 1,000

Riga Technical University (RTU) has moved into the 801–1,000 band of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, LSM reported, citing the ranking data. A year ago, it was placed in the 1,001–1,200 band. RTU’s scores rose in all five assessment categories.

Among other Latvian universities in the ranking, the University of Latvia remained in the 1,001–1,200 band, while Rīga Stradiņš University rose to the 1,201–1,400 band. The Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies was placed below 2,001. No other Latvian university ranked above 1,001.

The University of Latvia and Rīga Stradiņš University improved their scores in four categories. The Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies improved in research environment, research quality and international outlook, but its scores fell in teaching and industry engagement.

International outlook was each university’s highest-scoring category, and all four Latvian institutions improved their scores in it. RTU scored 71.2 points and Rīga Stradiņš University scored 66.8, the best results among the Latvian universities in that category.

The ranking assessed 2,297 universities worldwide. The University of Oxford ranked first, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology second, and Princeton University and Stanford University shared third place.
