Vooglaid weighs independent run in 2027 parliamentary election

Estonian MP Varro Vooglaid is considering running as an independent in the 2027 parliamentary election, ERR reported. He said he had not made a final decision and that no party had invited him to stand on its list.

Vooglaid said an independent campaign would be difficult, comparing it to playing football alone against a team, but said he was seriously weighing the option.

Fellow MP Tõnis Mölder said he currently did not expect to run in the election. He has held discussions with several parties but said he did not plan to join any party list at this stage. Mölder added that political developments could change his plans.

Mölder said an allegation against him could also make it harder to run. He is suspected of soliciting and agreeing to accept a bribe, as well as fraud in his capacity as a public official. Mölder said he believed he had not broken any laws, but acknowledged that the allegation would not put him in a good position to campaign.

Jaak Valge said he would not seek a seat in the next parliament. He plans to remain with Eesti Rahvuslased ja Konservatiivid, which recently merged with Eesti Vabaduspartei – Põllumeeste Kogu.

Enn Eesmaa has not decided whether to run and expects to make a decision in the coming weeks. He said several parties had discussed their candidate lists with him, but he had no binding agreements. Eesmaa said his health would be a factor in his decision.

MP Kersti Sarapuu, who is not affiliated with a parliamentary group, did not respond to ERR’s calls before publication.
