Court upholds conviction in €139,300 illicit enrichment case

Vilnius Regional Court has rejected an appeal and upheld a conviction against a woman from Šalčininkai district for illicit enrichment, including a €15,000 fine and confiscation of €139,300 in assets, LRT reported.

The General Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday that the woman was found guilty of owning assets worth more than 900 MGL between 2019 and 2022, knowing they could not have been acquired with lawful income.

During that period, she bought several apartments, administrative premises and other real estate in Vilnius. Some of the money used for the purchases came from illegal income, according to the case file.

The woman denied guilt and said she had bought the property with borrowed money. The court found that her lawful income was insufficient to account for her spending. Financial investigations and an assessment of her legal income confirmed that she had access to income not supported by documents.

Restrictions on some assets acquired with illegal income were imposed during the pre-trial investigation. The court ruled that they would remain in force until the sentence is enforced.
