Isamaa’s decline halts as its lead over Centre Party widens

Support for Isamaa has stopped falling after more than a month, and its lead over the Centre Party has widened to 1.9 percentage points, according to a Norstat poll commissioned by the Institute for Societal Research and reported by ERR. Isamaa was supported by 23.6 percent of eligible voters, compared with 21.7 percent for the Centre Party.

The Social Democratic Party ranked third with 14.9 percent, down 1.1 percentage points in a week. It was followed by EKRE on 13.8 percent, the Reform Party on 13.7 percent, the Eesti 200 party on 1.5 percent and the Greens on 0.5 percent. Other parties together received 3.2 percent.

The governing coalition parties had a combined support of 15.2 percent, while parliamentary opposition parties were backed by 74 percent of respondents.

Based on the latest figures, Isamaa would win 27 seats in parliament, the Centre Party 24, the Social Democrats 16, EKRE and the Reform Party 14 each, and the Right-wingers party six.

In a separate monthly survey, 28 percent of respondents said the government was doing its job very or fairly well, while 66 percent said it was doing fairly or very poorly. Nineteen percent approved of Kristen Michal’s performance as prime minister, while 63 percent disapproved.

The poll results cover the period from August 31 to September 27 and are based on responses from 4,000 eligible voters in Estonia.
