Kuldīga hosts first creative day for Kurzeme social centre clients

People from seven social day centres across Kurzeme met in Kuldīga for a creative self-expression event, where they sang, danced and displayed their work. The event was organised for the first time by the Tilts social services centre in Kuldīga, LSM reported, citing Skrundas Television.

The event, called “No sirds,” brought together people with intellectual and functional disabilities. Its exhibition featured colourful items made by participants. Activities at day centres include drawing, sewing and crafting, as well as singing and dancing.

Tilts director Līga Kuršinska said meeting people beyond their own centres gives participants experience in social interaction, communication and performing in front of others. Agnese Vispoļska, from the Talsi day support centre Iespēju namiņš, said the event gave people a chance to show more widely what they create.

One group performing on stage came from South Kurzeme district, with members who attend centres in Aizpute, Priekule and Rucava. They travelled to one another for rehearsals. Aiga, who lives in the Sudrabi group home in Rucava, had dreamed of learning to play the accordion; taking part in the event was also a challenge for her.
