Lithuania to seek EU funding for military mobility during its presidency

Lithuania will seek funding for security, military mobility and strategic infrastructure when it holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027, Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius said, according to LRT.

Sinkevičius discussed the priorities with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola at a meeting in Brussels on Tuesday. He said the EU’s next budget should reflect Europe’s changing security situation while supporting economic growth and regional resilience.

Lithuania will push for adequate funding through the Connecting Europe Facility and for military mobility, particularly for projects such as Rail Baltica and Via Baltica.

The meeting also covered the EU’s 2028–2034 multiannual financial framework, investment needs in security, access to a competitiveness fund and the outlook for European economic growth.

Sinkevičius and Metsola also discussed support for Ukraine. The prime minister stressed the importance of continued EU military and financial assistance, stricter enforcement of sanctions and a united contribution from member states. They also discussed Ukraine’s and Moldova’s EU accession processes.
