Lithuanian police arrest three in suspected cannabis trafficking case

Lithuanian law enforcement has arrested three people suspected of organising the acquisition and transport of narcotics across several European countries. Nearly 41 kilograms of cannabis were seized from a truck in France in 2020, LRT reported, citing Klaipėda County Police Headquarters.

The suspects, a 46-year-old man, a 43-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, are accused of illegally possessing a very large quantity of narcotics as part of an organised group.

French customs officials found 34 packages containing almost 41 kilograms of cannabis in a truck on August 3, 2020. Police said the drugs could be worth up to 410,000 euros on the illegal market.

In April 2026, officers carried out arrests and searches in Klaipėda and Vilnius, with support from Aras, Lithuania’s police anti-terrorist operations unit. They seized items relevant to the investigation and temporarily restricted the suspects’ rights to property and vehicles. Investigators also worked with law enforcement agencies in other countries.

The 46-year-old, a resident of Klaipėda District, and the 43-year-old, a Klaipėda resident who had previously been convicted several times, were both unemployed when arrested. The 38-year-old woman, a Klaipėda resident who works for a company, had no previous convictions.

The two men have been remanded in custody. The woman was released on 15,000 euros bail and ordered in writing not to leave the country. Investigators say some of the suspects have links to organised crime.

The investigation is being led by the Organised Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Klaipėda Regional Prosecutor’s Office. Illegal possession of a very large quantity of narcotic or psychotropic substances is punishable by 10 to 15 years in prison.
