Scammers defraud residents of about €5,500 in two counties

Scammers have taken about €5,500 from people in Telšiai and Tauragė counties, police said, according to LRT.

Telšiai police said a man born in 2005 signed a purchase agreement with a company on July 3 to buy a BMW 330. He transferred €1,380 as an advance payment and €2,500 for customs duties to bank accounts provided by the seller. The car was not delivered and the money was not returned, causing a loss of €3,880.

In a separate suspected fraud case, a man born in 1990 lost €1,570 while trying to insure his car. Police said he accessed an online portal and entered his online banking details. The incident was reported on Monday in Šakininkai village, in Pagėgiai municipality.

Pre-trial investigations have been opened into the suspected fraud cases.
