Lithuanian lawyer Leonora Vasiliauskiene dies

Lithuanian lawyer Leonora Vasiliauskiene has died, her family and the Lithuanian Bar Association announced, LRT reported. Her son, Arturas Vasiliauskas, wrote on Facebook: “Sad news – we have lost our mother.”

Born in 1945, Vasiliauskiene practised law for many years and took part in numerous high-profile criminal cases. She was appointed by the state to defend Viktor Uspaskich, then leader of the Labour Party, in a case involving the party’s undeclared accounts.

More than two decades ago, she also worked on the case against the Tulips gang in Panevezys. In recent years, she worked on the case concerning the 2021 riots near parliament.
