Latvian parties outline proposals for equal access to quality education

Latvian political parties have proposed different measures to ensure equal access to quality education, public media outlet LSM reported after asking parties and alliances what decisions they would take to improve education across the country.

The parties were asked how they would ensure equal access to teachers and learning materials and raise the quality of general education schools. The New Conservative Party, For Latvia’s Development, Rising Sun for Latvia, the Union of Greens and Farmers, the Progressives, the United List, Gobzems’ List, New Unity and the National Alliance offered proposals on digital learning materials, teacher pay, motivation and support.

We Are Changing the Rules proposed abolishing centralised exams, while Sovereign Power said it would protect small schools. Harmony Centre proposed service pensions for teachers, and For Stability! said education in Russian should be maintained. Latvia First said the economy should be developed so that more could be invested in education.
