LTV spotlights Suverēnā vara and Jaunlatvieši in election series

Latvian Television is focusing on the Suverēnā vara and Apvienība Jaunlatvieši political alliance in the latest edition of its election programme series, LSM reported.

The series, titled “Party in focus”, is intended to help voters make an informed choice in the 15th Saeima elections. It covers the programmes and proposals of political forces that received at least 2% support in an SKDS public opinion survey conducted in early August.

Each programme invites the leaders of candidate lists from five electoral districts, including those ranked first, second or third on their lists. The programme also includes an analytical report on the party’s record over the past four years, where applicable, and voters’ views of the party.

The series examines whether pre-election promises are merely a way to attract voters’ attention or a real basis for political accountability. The 15th Saeima elections will take place on Saturday, October 3. Polling stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and voters may cast their ballots at any polling station. Fourteen candidate lists have been submitted for the election.

Early voting, in which ballots are placed in storage, will be available at all polling stations in Latvia from September 28 until election day. The new Saeima will hold its first sitting on November 3, when the current 14th Saeima’s mandate ends.
