Jūrmala teacher wants better support and pay for educators

Jūrmala teacher Laura wants Latvian educators to be motivated and supported within four years, LSM reported. She also wants children to come to school happily, with everything they need to gain knowledge and develop into outstanding individuals alongside outstanding teachers.

Laura said she was concerned about teachers’ salaries, noting that promised increases had been implemented very slowly. She also called for attention to the learning resources available to schools and for greater support for teachers.

“These issues are mentioned in words, but in reality we are not getting anywhere with action,” Laura said.

She also said Latvia’s pension system was harsh and expressed hope that it could be improved so people could receive dignified pensions. Health care was another concern, she said, describing the situation as critical.
