LTG Infra to upgrade surveillance at Kena border checkpoint

LTG Infra, the infrastructure company of the Lithuanian Railways group, will modernise the video surveillance system at the Kena railway border control checkpoint on the Belarusian border, LRT reported Monday.

The checkpoint is one of the European Union’s most important external border crossings and is used by holders of simplified transit documents. The system will be upgraded in response to changing security threats and the need for effective state border control.

LTG Infra said a tender for the equipment would be announced soon. The project will upgrade the video surveillance infrastructure, improve monitoring of the checkpoint territory, strengthen the ability to detect possible violations in time and enable a faster response to incidents.

The equipment will be used by Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service after the project is completed. The project will be financed through the financial support instrument for border management and visa policy under the 2021 to 2027 programme of the Integrated Border Management Fund. LTG Infra will organise the tenders and coordinate the project.

The Kena checkpoint’s video surveillance systems were previously upgraded by information technology company Atea for 2 million euros. Fima, an engineering solutions company, upgraded the systems at the Lavoriškės and Padvarionys border guard stations for 760,000 euros and 2.4 million euros respectively.
