Police detain quad bike driver after girl dies in crash

Kelmė police detained a man after a nine-year-old girl died in a quad bike crash, LRT reported.

The man, born in 1988, was driving a Polaris RZR light quad bike in a forest in Raudgiriai village, Kelmė district, at about 12:53 p.m. on Sunday when he lost control and the vehicle overturned, according to the Police Department.

The girl, born in 2017, was travelling with him and died in the crash. The driver was placed in police custody.

A pre-trial investigation has been opened. Under Lithuania’s Criminal Code, a person who violates road safety or vehicle operating rules while driving a road vehicle and causes a crash in which someone dies may face up to seven years in prison.
