Lithuania turns back two migrants at Belarus border

Lithuanian border guards turned back two migrants attempting to enter from Belarus over the previous 24 hours, LRT reported on Saturday, citing the State Border Guard Service.

Latvian border guards turned back 31 migrants on Friday. Polish authorities recorded no attempts to cross the border illegally on Thursday.

More than 1,500 migrants have been denied entry to Lithuania so far this year. Last year, people attempted to enter the country from Belarus through unauthorised locations more than 1,600 times, compared with 1,002 attempts the year before.

Since the start of the migration crisis created by Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented 26,000 foreigners from entering the country illegally.

The influx of migrants from Belarus to the eastern EU member states began in 2021. Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of organising it.
