Lithuania seeks business role in Ukraine reconstruction and EU projects

Lithuania will seek to involve its businesses more closely in the reconstruction of Ukraine and projects under the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative, LRT reported, citing the Foreign Ministry.

“A year ago, we began by asking how Lithuanian institutions could work together to create more opportunities for our businesses in Ukraine’s reconstruction and in EU initiatives in developing markets. Today, we already have concrete results,” Deputy Foreign Minister Sigitas Mitkus said in a statement.

An interinstitutional Global Gateway coordination group is operating under the Foreign Ministry. Lithuania has also launched a business partnership programme focused on economic growth, resilience and innovation. Businesses are receiving information through a one-stop-shop system and are regularly informed about opportunities offered by international business forums and EU and national financial instruments.

Additional research will provide a basis for further decisions, particularly on financial instruments that would help Lithuanian companies invest in developing markets and reduce related risks, Mitkus said.

The coordination group includes representatives of the economy and innovation, finance, energy, transport, environment and foreign ministries, as well as the Central Project Management Agency, development bank ILTE, Innovation Agency Lithuania, the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, the Lithuanian Business Confederation, Infobalt, LINPRA and the Development Cooperation Platform.

Global Gateway is an EU strategic initiative aimed at mobilising investment and building reliable, sustainable and mutually beneficial ties with partners around the world. The European Commission said at the end of 2025 that more than 306 billion euros had already been mobilised under the initiative over four years. The total is expected to exceed 400 billion euros by 2027.
