Police found a cannabis cultivation site in the Švendubrė village area of Druskininkai municipality on Wednesday, LRT reported.

Officers from the Organised Crime Investigation Division of the Alytus County Chief Police Commissariat found cannabis growing in a meadow, as well as in a sauna and an outbuilding at a property belonging to a 52-year-old man. Police said he allegedly grew the plants for personal use.

Several dozen cannabis plants were seized during the search. Investigators also found suspected dried cannabis in glass, plastic and metal containers. In three-litre glass jars, cannabis parts had been covered with what was believed to be homemade vodka. About 12.5 litres of suspected homemade vodka was seized in total.

After questioning, the man was suspected of illegally possessing narcotic or psychotropic substances without intending to distribute them. He was ordered not to leave the country without permission. The man had previously been convicted of public order offences and causing bodily harm.

The pre-trial investigation is being overseen by prosecutors from the Alytus District Prosecutor’s Office of the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
