Artists’ union displays 162 works ahead of support auction

The Estonian Artists’ Union has opened an exhibition of all 162 works being offered in its support auction at the ARS art campus in Tallinn, ERR reported.

The exhibition brings together established figures from Estonia’s recent art history and many contemporary artists. The selection includes monumental paintings, graphic art, photography, bronze sculpture and textiles.

The auction will feature works from the union’s art collection as well as pieces recently donated by artists.

“The selection of auction works is like the Estonian Artists’ Union itself. Different generations and different media come together,” said Tüü​ne-Kristin Vaikla, the union’s vice-president. “Plurality is what makes the union a special organisation and a special meeting place for this auction.”

Jaanus Samma, Harry Liivrand, Lilian Hiob-Küttis, Elnara Taidre and Eero Epner will also lead tours of the exhibition. It will remain open until October 7.

The auction will take place at the ARS art campus over three consecutive days, October 8 to 10. The Thursday auction, starting at 6 p.m., will offer 56 graphic art and photographic works. Friday’s auction, also beginning at 6 p.m., will feature 56 paintings, sculptures, drawings and textiles, while Saturday’s auction, starting at 3 p.m., will offer 50 works in those categories.

The auction will be conducted by Eesti Kunsti Oksjonid.
