Latvia seeks nominees for 2026 Volunteer of the Year awards

Latvia’s State Employment Agency is inviting residents and organisations to nominate candidates for the annual Volunteer of the Year 2026 awards, LSM reported. Nominations are open until November 1, 2026, for contributions made between November 6, 2025, and October 31, 2026.
The awards recognise Latvian residents and organisations that dedicate their time to voluntary work for the benefit of society. They also aim to encourage greater public interest and participation in volunteering.
Candidates can be nominated in four categories:
Volunteer of the Year recognises an individual whose voluntary work has significantly benefited society, a community or a specific target group. The nominee must have successfully carried out complex and responsible tasks, acted independently, shown initiative and made a significant, regular and reliable contribution.
Volunteer Work Coordinator of the Year recognises a coordinator who plans and organises voluntary work, supports volunteers, matches tasks to their skills, interests and abilities, creates a safe, respectful and inclusive environment, and supports volunteers’ development and initiative.
Volunteer Work Organisation of the Year recognises an organisation that has created a significant benefit for society together with volunteers. It must provide thoughtful, regular and sustainable opportunities for volunteer involvement, offer support and development opportunities, value volunteers’ contributions, and promote the recognition and development of voluntary work.
Event of the Year recognises an event at which volunteers are not merely assistants but important co-creators. They must use their skills, take responsibility and actively participate in delivering the event. The organiser must have ensured meaningful, respectful and inclusive volunteer participation that benefited society and encouraged further involvement in voluntary work.
Any Latvian resident, non-governmental organisation, state institution or local government institution may nominate candidates. The application form and award regulations are available on the State Employment Agency’s website.
